Good Afternoon Families,
It’s hard to believe that March is here. During the month of March, there are many important events to keep in mind so make sure to scroll down to the “Upcoming Events’ section.
Along with report cards, we will be distributing the New York City Department of Education’s Learning Environment Survey. For those of you who are not familiar with these surveys, they come in a bright green envelope and are distributed to every parent in our school. Parents fill out one survey per school. So, if you have more than one child in our school, you only fill out one survey, based on the experience of the oldest child.
This is an opportunity to voice your opinion about BSI, and for the DOE to collect information on all NYC public schools. Your answers are entirely confidential. The DOE uses these surveys to learn about what schools do well, and what they can do to improve. We encourage you to fill out the short survey either in its paper form, online or by mobile phone. It only takes a few minutes to complete but gives us very helpful feedback.
If you choose to submit your survey in paper form, surveys will need to be mailed in the pre-addressed postage paid envelopes by Friday, March 31, 2017. If you wish to fill out your survey online or by mobile phone, go to www.nycschoolsurvey.org and select Parent Survey. If you complete your survey online, the deadline remains March 31, 2017. To log in, you will need the alpha-numeric code above the barcode on your paper survey. You will receive confirmation once you have completed the survey.
If you have questions, you may contact Liza Sussman. Thank you for your participation!

Bus & Travel
Our work around improving safety on the bus is going in the right direction. We will continue to have monthly meetings with all bus groups and teaching into essential learning concepts/safe riding practices. Our goal is to reinforce safe behaviors for riding on the bus such as:
Think Safety First
Find my seat, Buckle-up!
Keep my feet in front keeping the aisle clear
Use a quiet voice.
In addition, students will be getting assigned seats on the bus. The process of assigned seating is a complex one. It involves students making wise decisions as to where and who to sit next to, as well as our guidance to ensure that their choice is something that will meet their individual needs.
Bridge Raising Event
Second graders are working on their Brooklyn Bridge Architecture projects as a culminating project in their Social Studies unit and are gearing up for bridge raising on March 23, 2017.
To continue with our FAQs below is a question that will be added to the archive.
Why administer the Mock ELA & Math tests? The purpose of the Mock tests is to give students the experience of sitting for a longer test and to inform teacher instruction. Students do not receive a grade for these assessments. They are used internally by teachers only.
Middle School News
High School Letters
The letters will be distributed on Wednesday, March 8th. We will be speaking with the students about sensitivity around HS matches, and are hopeful that you will revisit the same topic at home. Letters will be distributed at dismissal. If you are able to come to school to pick your 8th grader up at the end of the day on Wednesday, that might be nice.
Please complete this form so we know what to expect.
